Not for the first time in 2019, Hollywood will turn its focus on the sexual harassment allegations that led to Roger Ailes resigning from Fox News – this time in the form of Bombshell, a feature film starring Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Margot Robbie.
The trailer features all three women standing tensely in an elevator, barely speaking but acting hard enough to break a sweat. You can practically see the secret looming between them as they weigh the consequences it could reap.
Kidman and Theron play Gretchen Carlson and Megyn Kelly, respectively, both of whom spoke out against Ailes in 2016. Robbie’s character, Kayla Pospisil, is a Fox producer invented for the film; together, the three of them form the beginnings of a whisper network, the type women have used for years to warn each other of sexually predatory men in the workplace.
While Showtime’s The Loudest Voice examined Ailes’ career and home life over decades, Bombshell will focus specifically on the tumultuous end of his public career (he maintained ties to Fox and Rupert Murdoch until his death in 2017), focusing – if the trailer is any indication – on the women who had had enough.
Bombshell hits theaters in December 20.
